The F+F School was founded in Zurich in 1971 and has since then played a pioneering role in Swiss art education. The school experimented early on with performance, new media, video and photography. The now active photography department was established a decade ago, but the F+F’s relation to the medium reaches back to it’s founders. Artists Doris Stauffer and Serge Stauffer had their own share of photography in their art practice, and students like Rudolf de Crignis and Peter Trachsel made much use of photography for their concept art based test cases. These protagonists of the early F+F School are at the center of Michael Hiltbrunner’s research, this years curator of the current and ongoing diploma show Trigger point – teleporting.
After a brief introduction of photography degree program @
Forward Festival by head of department Sarah Keller and Goran Galic, Michael Hiltbrunner will link the past to the present: From the F+F co-founders Serge and Doris Stauffer – to the contemporary use of photography in the actual diploma works of the department of photography.
Susanne Grädel and Celia Längle, two of the graduating students will follow up with a short introduction of their diploma work. Susanne Grädel’s three part video essay Das Rauschen is based on found footage from her personal family archive and shortcuts video, photography and spoken language on questions of trueness and perception, self-staging, fiction and social relationships. Celia Längle’s Freiraum – Präludium und Fuge Op. 201 leads to a reflection on time and space using an existentialistic approach. In a self experiment the artist confronts herself with boredom as artistic strategy and subversive detour. The video-acoustic fuge encompasses different variations of transformations of time and space and withdraws itself from fast consumption.
